This story just made the BBC midnight news. I was doing the washing up, after doing a lovely roast dinner (but thats another story). So I thought I'd Google the story and came here ;)
Abut 1.30pm today I was sorting out a charity organisations place (30 PC's, Office/Public/I.T. training suite)... Lovely constant red light on the BT 2WIRE.
I switched to a 2WIRE spare, Nice bright Red light... It's the only thing pretty on that ugly box don't you think?

Checked the Ethernet Switches... Powered Down everything, Powered Up everything... The usual that I do with that ADSL BT connection at that Charity location.
I just gave up after a few hours as BT were not answering their phones, so my take was that it was just BT being BT. So I walked away to leave the 2WIRE to get its act together in the morning.
I had no idea about the power failer.

I am not a fatalist, but that doesn't boud well for the "end of the world" senario.
Wasn't the Inernet designed to reroute, in case of that... (of course it will but...)

I guess BT need to buy a few more back up generators...

Oh! Wait! Lets just get a new provider for a charity that really relies on its emails (for fund raising) and provides a public service to local people for their internet access to fill in online forms.

One reason I am posting here, is because we are down South... Hampshire!
So it has not just affected you guys up North, and this has not been reported.
I feel your pain.

Why not give both people and businesses an incentive to stay in the town.
To start with they should lower the rents or at least make all main car parks free to park in because with so many out of town shops nearby that offer free parking, it's no wonder no one goes there anymore.

Argos has a long history of taking on lots of temporary staff in the run up to Christmas, and I wouldn't expect the recruitment drive for seasonal workers to be much different in scale than it has been over recent years.

No! No!No! to the redevelopment of the Hibbert Lane college site.Marple council has done enough damage as it is disposing of alot of the historical sites over the years, where other councils have managed to keep and restore their heritage. This Tesco store would be like a carbuncle in our beautiful village. We will fight tooth and nail to stop this taking place.

Please, please, please give us a railway link. Over the past few years I’ve heard reports that the Guided Busway to Manchester is a done deal but have not heard of anybody from my local community (Pennington) who either wants this or needs it. The town is crying out for a rail link. I live in Pennington, travel by car to Liverpool 2-3 times per week, work in Warrington and regularly travel to Manchester to visit family and shop. For all these trips I would not consider travelling by bus but by train is a really viable option to both me and my family.
